Planning Constraints
Conservation Area
The Swereford project involved the total reclamation of two long-neglected properties, resolving a convoluted and disconnected layout caused by years of haphazard extension works. What began as a internal renovation and simple extension works evolved into a complete shell-and-core rebuild, stripping the structures back to their original walls whilst repairing all salvageable historical fabric to allow for a comprehensive architectural reform.
Strategic Planning & Restoration
• Spatial Ajacencies: Although the structures were unlisted and historically removed from within the conservation areas due to their state of decay. The proposals would remain
deeply respectful of their immediate proximity to the protected area and adjacent properties.
• Spatial Re-stitching: The project unified two derelict shells into a single, cohesive dwelling. By "re-stitching" the disparate elements of the buildings, the new layout creates a thoughtful, cohesive arrangement of living spaces.
Overcoming the perceived lack of architectural potential, the intervention proves that even the most complicated and neglected plots can be reimagined as bespoke residential architecture.
The proposals turn a once-fragmented site into a unified landmark that balances the freedom of a modern rebuild with the character of its historic surroundings.
