Our clients desired a large, practical loft extension that would break away from the typical flat roof dormer extensions that monopolise the local skyline. This typology was to soften into the roofscape while adding a bold contemporary element to an aesthetically traditional home.
The use of both curves internally and externally broke away from the sharp, overshadowing angles of neighbouring rooflines to create a passive, inviting, and sculptural additional to their family home.
Curvilinear Form: The use of internal and external curves breaks away from the overshadowing geometry of neighbouring extensions, resulting in a more passive and inviting silhouette. The intervention serves as a bold contemporary statement, deviating from the home’s traditional aesthetic.
Interior Elements: Beyond the external aesthetic, the curved structural elements continue inside, softening shadows to create a unique, fluid interior atmosphere.
By moving beyond generic design and embracing function as well as form, the project provides a bespoke, sculptural architectural addition that resonates towards its surroundings.
