Residential Infill Site
Arlo House was designed to integrate harmoniously into a sensitive site, prioritising the preservation of historic vistas and the character of its neighbouring properties. By employing traditional architectural detailing, the design effectively reduces the building's perceived mass, allowing it to knit into the local vernacular without appearing as a dominant or intrusive addition to the quaint, undeveloped area.
Design Approach
Contextual Sensitivity: The front elevation respects the village grain and established sightlines through classic proportions and sympathetic materiality.
Modern Transition: In contrast to the traditional elevations, the rear elevation adopts a contemporary language, utilising larch timber cladding and large-format glazing to connect the living spaces with the garden and southern aspects.
Balanced Aesthetics: This dual approach ensures the home feels like a natural evolution of the village, respecting local heritage while embracing modern, light-filled living.
