Planning Constraints
Grade 2 Listed Building
The clients wished to inject both aesthetical design and social functionality into an area of their garden that required substantial intervention. Creating a social and aesthetic focal point for a Grade II listed farmhouse. By replacing an aged glasshouse with a bespoke, oak-framed structure, the design successfully integrates contemporary functionality within a sensitive historical context.
Heritage Integration & Design
• Material Harmony: The use of reclaimed Northcote bricks and traditional oak framing ensures the new structure respectfully neighbours the original historical milk sheds.
• Aesthetic & Utility: The dual-purpose glasshouse and potting shed provides a traditional, usable space that elevates the existing garden structure through "simple, honest" architectural detailing.
• Functional Living: The intervention creates an inviting family environment that feels like a natural extension of the farmhouse's curtilage.
