This redesign transforms Spindle Court from a modest one-bedroom apartment into a sophisticated three-storey duplex maisonette. The project centers on a dramatic 2.5-storey entrance hall, created by opening the heart of the building while cleverly maintaining original service layouts with minimal impact to usable floorspace.
Architectural Transformation
• Vertical Expansion: The layout now spans three floors, featuring an open-plan boot room and utility at the entrance, first-floor social spaces, and top-floor bedrooms with a mezzanine study.
• Volumetric Design: Low ceiling heights were visually mitigated by enlarging windows and lowering sill levels, which floods the home with natural light from east to west.
• Materiality & Light: The increased daylight allows for a richer, darker material palette to be used without making the space feel confined.
• Celebrated Circulation: Strategic use of glazed partitions connects the central circulation to the main living areas, turning a functional hall into a focal piece of architecture.
